An
ear infection is a common side effect of colds, sinus infections, and
other problems. The small tube that connects the inner ear with the
nose becoming blocked usually causes them. Moisture builds up in the
ear, and pressure increases. Thus, we get an ear infection.
Getting an ear infection common, uncomfortable, and generally not
serious. In most cases, you can avoid going to the doctor entirely by
treating the problem at home.
There are a number of options available
to you if you're looking for a home remedy for ear infection. Here are
just a few of them.
Looking into the medicine cabinet, we find a number of home remedy
options. Some people take zinc supplements to help treat their ear
infections, as well as other illnesses.
A few drops of three percent
hydrogen peroxide solution in each ear, for about ten minutes, will
help cure earaches caused by infection.
You can also use a one to one ratio of rubbing alcohol and white
vinegar. The alcohol's drying action will reduce the moisture in the
ear canal, and vinegar's cleaning action can kill fungi or bacteria
infecting the ear.
In the kitchen, you can easily find a home remedy for ear infection.
Onions and garlic are known to have anti-bacterial properties. This
means that warm onion juice can be used as an eardrop.
You can also heat two garlic cloves in a couple of teaspoons of mustard
oil until the oil blackens. Once it's cool, this oil can then be used
as an effective eardrop to cure ear infections.
If the ear
is merely irritated, you may be able to soothe it by
applying a few drops of olive oil to the exterior. Likewise, mustard
oil, applied daily, can help to reduce your chances of getting an ear
infection or speed healing if you already have one.
Another home remedy for ear infection choice is eardrops made from
mashed, peeled turmeric root in water can help with an infection.
Turmeric has traditional uses as a natural antibiotic, so it's a good
choice for an ear wash.
It's easy to find remedies in common essential oils, too. You can
combine two drops of lavender oil, two of chamomile oil, and three
drops of tea tree oil in an almond oil carrier.
Use this mixture,
slightly warmed, as an eardrop three times a day. Chamomile is known to
sooth inflammation, and tea tree oil has well documented anti-microbial
properties.
Heat has long been known to help as a home remedy for ear infection.
Applying a warm, moist cloth to the ear can improve circulation in the
ear, and help remove wax that is causing a blockage.
Applying heat to an earache can generally reduce the pain in most
cases. Heating pads and electric blankets may be useful for this
purpose.
Remember never to put anything into your ear to try to remove a
blockage. You could injure your ear, or push blockages in further and
create complications.
